Version 1.8 of the original Ruby/Sapphire ball heater.

Includes: Precision machined diamond ground Zirconia ceramic housing, Lab grown Ruby/Sapphire bead packing (installed) and a 14MM-to-14MM American made borosilicate lab glass adapter.
Optional: 16x16MM Disorderly Conduction XLR coil, (installed) Disorderly Conduction stand.
Just add a compatible PID controller (sold separately) to complete the bundle.

Z8 represents over 3 years of continuous research & development over now eight revisions.
Upgrades from V1.7 include:
- Improved Air Flow, 50% higher flow from new slotted air intakes.
Allows for more comfortable use from less draw restriction/drag with 3MM beads, slotted intake design also greatly reduces the chance of beads blocking the inlet holes.
- Recessed groove on the underside to lock in the stainless steel retaining screen.
The most secure and safe version yet. Also, the added top bezel on the housing forces a one-way coil installation for additional security.
- Material changed from Borosilicate glass to Precision CNC machined White Zirconia ceramic.
Zirconia is the most durable and least brittle of all technical ceramics, with the closest thermal properties to glass out of all suitable materials. The end result is true convection in a far more durable platform than glass or quartz, without compromising any of the purity.
Zirconia is a biocompatible material used frequently in cosmetic dentistry and hip/knee replacement surgeries. The raw material and machining costs are rather expensive due to the unusually high strength and density of zirconia compared to other advanced ceramics, which can only be processed using diamond tools. (Note: Housing color in the rendering is due to the white background, the actual finished part will be diamond polished white zirconia ceramic.)
- Added focus on efficiency by downsizing to 14MM adapters.
By keeping the same amount of heated surface area as V1.7, but shrinking the outlet diameter of the heater, we're able to achieve faster, denser, and more concentrated extractions, all while using less material than ever. V1.8 fits any standard sized 14/20 or 14/23 lab glass adapters for worldwide compatibility. (Note: V1.8 does not fit 18MM glass adapters or "injector" bowls)
I also wanted to share some photos of some of the different iterations this design has gone through over the last 2.5 years of development.
V1.2 - This 20MM coil version featured a combination coil arm/air inlet and used "ball valve" airflow metering.
V1.5, V1.6, V1.7 - These were all made from fused quartz using a combination of CNC machining and skilled scientific glassblowing.
V1.7 with 4MM sapphires, improved airflow over 1.6, downsized to a 16MM coil for a more concentrated power density.
